When your eyes are tired
the world is tired also.
When your vision has gone
no part of the world can find you.
Time to go into the dark
where the night has eyes
to recognize its own.
There you can be sure
you are not beyond love.
The dark will be your womb tonight.
The night will give you a horizon
further than you can see.
You must learn one thing.
The world was made to be free in.
Give up all other worlds
except the one to which you belong.
Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet confinement
of your aloneness to learn
anything or anyone
that does not bring you alive
is too small for you.
I always look forward to flipping through the Patagonia catalog not so much for the clothes (although I do support them wholeheartedly) but mostly because of the stunning photography of people caught in the act of doing incredible things in incredible places. It's vicarious adventure at it's best and forever inspiring. Here are a couple of my favorites and Hellen Keller summed it up best....
"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. Security does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than exposure."

I decided to play around with a couple of my favorite photos I took here in Venice and voila! I used these particular photos to experiment with because they both had an unusual quality about them (especially the first one below which looks like an old postcard photo) but after some modern techie adjustments, they look more like paintings to me now... This particular day I shot these pics, I remember how "heavy" the sky felt and I thought at any moment, it would come crashing down on me..
Walking down the street
feeling a little blue
hang my head low
what do I see
Compassion staring back at me....
there is a glowing ember within us all even when it seems on the surface life has passed us by.. this seemingly lifeless remains of a tree reminds me.. what will I do today to spark that fire?
