g. roslie’s contemplative abstract modern textile art - ‘float’
i receive inspiration in many forms whether from a beautiful natural landscape, a poem that confirms or shifts my perspective, a word that resonates deeply or abundant forms of energy that exists in this & other dimensions. wherever the inspiration stems from, this form of textile art is a culmination of many things I love including the process of natural dyeing, sewing & appreciation for modern/abstract design & art. my aim is to create a sense of peace, calm & contemplative reflection through the work i do both for myself as the maker and you as the viewer.
:float ~ part of a series exploring the feminine archetype, float was inspired by being in the flow as water does & inspired by rumi’s beautiful poem:
float, trust, enjoy
muhammad said no one looks
back and regrets leaving this
world. what’s regretted
is how real we thought it was!
how much we worried about
phenomena and how little
we considered what moves
through form. “why did i spend
my life denying death? death
is the key to truth!” when you
hear lamenting like that, say,
not out loud, but
inwardly, “what moved you
then still moves you, the same
energy.but you understand
perfectly now that you are not
essentially a body, tissue, bone,
brain, and muscle. dissolve
in the clear vision. instead of
looking down at the six feet of
road immediately
ahead, look up: see both worlds,
the face of the king, the ocean
shaping and carrying
you along. you’ve heard
descriptions of that sea. now
float, trust, enjoy the motion.

naturally dyed flax linen, organic cotton muslin, hardwood dowel
each textile art is made from naturally hand dyed flax linens. the backing is a natural organic cotton muslin. simple hardwood hanging frame (use two small nails on each end of the frame to hold up).
the beauty of natural dyed textiles is the variation of colors and natural imperfections that occur during the dyeing process. the perfection of imperfection, somewhat akin to the ‘wabi-sabi’ principal is very much a part of my textile art which makes it wholly unique, one-of-a-kind and of nature.
note: please keep all naturally dyed textile away from direct exposure to sunlight or harsh artificial light to prevent premature fading & degradation of fabric.
